How to Write a Travel Article

Traveling is the practice of moving from one location to the next over an extended distance, whether by walking, bicycling, carpooling, train, plane or other modes of transport. Travel can be undertaken for leisure, business or pleasure and people often travel in order to gain exposure to different cultures and ways of living while others use travel as an escape from daily life and enjoy some respite.

Travel is a term derived from Latin verb travl, meaning to toil or suffer. Originally used to describe laborious journeys or difficult hikes, modern definitions include air and road travel as well as boating, sailing, hiking, cycling, train rides and walking as forms of travel. Travel can refer both to journeying as well as planning vacations or trips – or both at once!

A great travel article should be both engaging and enlightening. It should include plenty of relevant facts and vivid descriptions of your destination, along with personal narratives or anecdotes from personal experience. When writing such pieces it’s essential that the writer establishes their unique point-of-view, understanding why they are writing the article at all, so as to choose which details to include and structure the piece properly.

When describing a destination, avoid cliched terms like sweeping vistas and “a place out of time.” Instead, use sensory language to immerse the reader in the scene – what do the flowers look like, smell like and sounds can be heard? Doing this will help make your article more believable and unforgettable for readers.

Information regarding local culture, language and history should also be included to give readers a deeper insight into the area, which may entice them to visit it themselves. An easy-to-read article structured with clear headings should also include photos and maps as visual aids.

Traveling offers us many breathtaking sights, tasty foods and beverages – but it is important not to forget to respect the environment and local people by being mindful of cultural and religious differences and honoring cultural and religious festivals of each community visited. Also remembering to bring valuable items with us can save money as well as increase enjoyment while decreasing risks of losing our belongings during travels.
